The Music Ministry at First Presbyterian provides opportunities for worship, music education, performance and community outreach. Through the great music of the church we share the story of the Gospel of Christ, offer praise and glory to God and share in Christian fellowship and nurture.
Children's Choir
Children in K-5th grades meet on Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for Children's Choir. Children prepare music for worship by singing, playing Orff instruments or ringing handbells. Children sing in worship on average of 6 times a year (click here to view singing schedule). The children also prepare a musical to present during worship in the spring.
Sanctuary Choir
This adult choir sings for 11:00 AM worship, seasonal worship services, and special concerts. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m.
Alleluia Handbell Choir
These adult ringers meet for rehearsal on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. and provide music for worship throughout the year.
Festival Singers
This community choir, sponsored by First Presbyterian, performs two annual concerts in winter and spring. The choir is sometimes accompanied by guest instrumentalists from the Jackson Symphony. Rehearsals are seasonally on Thursday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Schantz Organ
In 2001 a three manual, 56-rank Schantz pipe organ was installed by the Schantz Organ Company of Orville, Ohio. The organ not only enhances music for regular worship and special services, but it is also a resource to the music community serving as a practice instrument for organ students and a splendid instrument for concert performances. Carillon
The Jackson Memorial Carillon, with its 47 bells, is a unique feature of our music ministry, providing music for community events, worship services, weddings, funerals and memorial services.
