The First Presbyterian Playschool had its beginning in 1971 as a mother-helper program for 3 and 4 year olds. The program has expanded to include 2 year-old classes and a large 3 and 4 year-old program. The playschool meets primarily in the Education Building, but also makes use of the gymnasium (Gym-Ed Building) and playground for recreation during the day. There are six permanent teachers. All teachers have degrees in early childhood education and many years of experience in the classroom. In addition, teachers attend eighteen to twenty-one hours of workshops yearly. All teachers are certified in CPR and First Aid. Three and Four Year Old Class Teachers: Two-Year-Old Class Teachers: Programs are offered either Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday. Classes will be filled by a lottery system in the spring and from a waiting list during the school year. The Playschool has been licensed by the Department of Human Services and received a Three Star Rating under the new assessment program for daycare and preschools. PURPOSE The Playschool functions as an approved program of the First Presbyterian Church.
