The “Presbyterian Women” (often referred to as “PW”) is a very active part of our Church’s ministry.

Four circles meet monthly for prayer, support and Bible study using the “Horizons“ Bible Study curriculum. Our study for 2009/2010 is “Joshua - A Journey of Faith” by Mary Mikhael.

Presbyterian women have a strong emphasis on service.  Women provide financial support for local and international projects, but also give of their time and talents. Projects include providing desserts for the Soup Kitchen, providing fruit for the “Church without Walls”, collect funds for “Fellowship of the Least coin” for international Christian women’s funds, coordinate volunteers for Christmas “Meals on Wheels”, and working for annual “Mission Day” where a variety of projects are completed for both local and international concerns.

PW is responsible for maintaining the Church-wide “Prayer Chain” and individual Circles are assigned “homebound members” to minister to.

In addition, PW is responsible for coordinating special events such as the “Kirkin' of the Tartans” luncheon, as well as receptions for special events and funerals.

PURPOSE OF PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ,
And empowered by the Holy Spirit,
We commit ourselves:
To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
To support the mission of the church worldwide,
To work for justice and peace,
And to build an inclusive, caring community of women
That strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA),
And witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN PW GOALS FOR 2009 - 2010

  1. Faithfully study God's word together and individually, by increasing our knowledge as we study together this year, "Joshua - A Jorney of Faith ."
  2. Provide care to each member of First Presbyterian Church (especially those who have no other church or family support) in their times of distress, illness, hospitalization, or bereavement through the Prayer Chain, Hospitality Committee and individual circles.
  3. Provide assistance to meet community needs through providing cakes for the Soup Kitchen, providing meals for our homebound members and preparing 100 layettes for Jackson General and Regional Hospitals on Mission Day.
  4. Be faithful, caring, supportive and nurturing to the needs of all women of our church family. Encourage our new members and inactive members to join a circle, attend a gathering, and assist with a mission project.
